MCG, David Neitz Terrace
The MCC’s brief was to create a destination with a special ambiance and atmosphere for its members.
The bar needed to “create a climate” i.e. be warm and welcoming in winter and cool in summer. The design process involved working closely with the MCC caterer to establish the bar and kitchen requirements. The overall space needed to accommodate 600 covers.
New timber doors and surrounds were designed supporting a sense of entry into this terrace with extraordinary city views. Umbrellas, a Po’boy Hut, and a drinks bar were created to service the catering functions. An existing stainless steel pod was clad in timber on the sides and a vertical garden was created on the front face.
Glazing on the perimeter was raised for safety, propping benches were added, and a shelter surrounding the bar was built.
These built forms create enclaves within the terrace, providing natural gathering spaces.
